Weekend in Big Sur
I was born and raised in the bay area and had never been to Big Sur. True story. I went on a what turned out to be a beautiful weekend in October. I recommend going this time of year. It's considered to be off-season, so hotel and restaurant reservations were pretty easy to snag.
I stayed at the Ventana Inn. It was amazing. There are really only two hotels you can stay at in Big Sur. Ventana Inn and Post Ranch Inn. What's the difference? The views. At Post Ranch, you get insane views of the ocean and at Ventana, you get views the mountains. (There is no difference in price. They are both insanely expensive.) The best part about Ventana? They have a car service that takes you anywhere in the Big Sur Area. You never have to worry about an uber taking 20 minutes to get you or not drinking and driving.
Of course we stopped at the Big Sur Bakery. It was as good as everyone says it is. I know this sounds like the world's most boring thing to pick from a menu, but I got a bran muffin and IT WAS TO DIE FOR. The seasonal breakfast was delish too. (You'll see it below.)
We went to McWay Falls on a pretty foggy day. We were hoping the fog was going to break off, but it didn't. It was actually ok.
We decided to leave the hotel and grab dinner at Sierra Mar at the Post Ranch Inn. Every bite was well worth the pre-fixe price you pay. I wish I could remember all the fancy names of the meals we ate. You'll just have to look and admire them for their beauty.
